Luis Meseguer Mira - Music composer

Luis Meseguer music composer

Music is a gateway. The listener makes a personal relationship with what lies behind the music veil. So we find light, width, depth and a silent and full presence.

In 2020, Luis heard a Mass composed by the little-known Pedro Aizpurua. On the one hand, the melodies were very simple, suitable for non-professional singers. On the other hand, the language used was profound and mysterious. How to achieve this combination, how to build a doorway to the Mystery with the simplest of tools? Every note is there, it cannot be another. That was what Arvo Pärt called "loving every note". This is what Luis tries to build with his creations, in whatever typology the work is framed: sacred music, for concert, for media or for theatre.

He entered the world of music at the age of 9, studying piano at the Salvador Ribas Music Academy. In 2012, he entered the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona, where he studied the Professional Degree in piano and won Mention of Honour in Composition and Piano. Since 2018 he is studying Bachelor of Music in Composition in ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya). He also has a degree in Audiovisual Communication from UIC Barcelona.

At ESMUC he has been a student of Bernat Vivancos, José Río-Pareja and Christophe Havel. He has also received classes from composers as varied as Albert Guinovart, Pierre Jodlowski, Arnau Bataller, Martín Matalón, Ann Cleare, Joan Arnau Pàmies, Eduard Resina, Elena Rykova and Misato Mochizuki, as well as sessions given by Kaija Saariaho, Raquel García Tomás, Joan Magrané and Núria Giménez. He has taken part in a course given by Ignacio Yepes in Observatorio de lo Invisible.

Luis has received awards and selections for his choral music: Mention of the jury of the III Concurso Coral de Canarias in 2020, as well as the category of finalist in the Concurso Internacional de Música Sacra Fernando Rielo. As for instrumental music, he won 1st prize in the Composition Challenge of the Fundación Música Creativa and the selection in the Granoll-Orgue project of the Fundació Pro Musica Sacra de Granollers.

Concerning his music for media, his projects include advertising, fiction, documentary, theatre and music for apps. He has worked with national and international directors, including alumni of prestigious film schools and faculties of communication, such as ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema de Catalunya), ECIB (Escola de Cinema de Barcelona) or University of Navarra.

In addition, his experience in Marvin&Wayne – Short Film Distribution, Festival Cinema Natura de Cervelló and Andorra Kids’ Film Festival leads him to get updated and opened to new art trends.
